Smeltz quits Perth Glory

New Zealand international Shane Smeltz is on the lookout for a new club after quitting Perth Glory.

Sydney FC is the early frontrunner to lure Smeltz, but the 32-year-old will also explore overseas options.

Smeltz scored 28 goals in 58 appearances for Perth, but his 2013/14 campaign was blighted by a series of injuries.

The prolific striker says it's time for him to seek a new challenge in the twilight of his career.

Glory coach Kenny Lowe is set to head to England next week on a recruiting campaign.

Lowe has already signed Wanderers striker Youssouf Hersi and former Socceroos defender Dino Djulbic since being appointed coach on a two-year deal last month.

Marquee defender William Gallas is still a chance to remain at the club next season.
