Serial paedophile Dennis McKenna has applied for legal aid to fund his appeal bid to reduce his time behind bars for sexually abusing boys at the State-run Katanning hostel.

His father Doug McKenna has also said he believes some of his son's victims "jumped on the bandwagon" to claim compensation.

Mr McKenna told 6PR radio yesterday that his son had pleaded guilty to the 34 sex offence charges only "to get it all over with".

Dennis McKenna, 69, lodged an appeal this week in a bid to reduce the nine-year jail term imposed in February last year for the sexual abuse of 17 boarders when he was the warden of the country hostel between 1976 and 1988.
