WA boxer Jordan Samardali has been selected for Australia's Commonwealth Games team on the back of his stand-out display at the national championships in Fremantle last month.

The light-heavyweight (81kg) all but made up the selectors' minds by winning boxer of the tournament on his way to gold at the Esplanade Hotel.

The 20-year-old will receive confirmation when the team is officially announced, probably next week, but thewest.com.au understands Samardali is going to Glasgow.

Samardali, who has a gym at his family home in Mullaloo, is trained by Danny Green's old coach Pat Devellerez. Green was in Fremantle to cheer on the youngster.

"When Pat talks to me he says I'll be the next Danny Green, it gives me something to aim for," Samardali said.

Samardali is set to fly to Canberra this week to join the rest of the squad at the Australian Institute of Sport. While there they will compete against a visiting Scotland squad.
