Missing cyclist located in Pilbara

A cyclist who went missing in the Pilbara this morning has been located safely.

The 27-year-old Port Douglas man was part of a trio who were cycling from Alice Springs to 80 Mile Beach.

Earlier today, emergency supplies where dropped to his two companions when the equipment they were using to filter water from wells broke.

He rode on ahead while the other two remained in contact with police via satellite phone.

Contact with the first cyclist was briefly lost but he has since been located.

The three cyclists plan to reunite this afternoon and continue on to 80 Mile Beach.

A police spokesperson said they were all experienced riders with adequate supplies of food, clothing, and emergency communications equipment and camping gear.
