A 28-year-old man has been charged over an ATM explosion at Halls Head earlier this year.

According to police, on March 24 the man went to a shopping centre on Guava Way and set an ATM on fire.

It is alleged the man pumped a gas into the machine and poured petrol on it before igniting it.

Regional Investigations Unit yesterday charged the man with causing and explosion likely to do serious injury.

He is due to appear in Perth Magistrate's Court today.
