Couple charged over car theft

Police have charged a man and a woman after they were involved in a crash after allegedly fleeing police in Perth’s southern suburbs today.

It is alleged the pair, along with a second male, were in a stolen Holden Commodore travelling along Carrington Street in O’Connor when they were seen by police at about 1pm.

The driver allegedly refused to stop for police, leading the officers on a chase around the suburb.

A police Air Wing helicopter found the car crashed into a tree on Ethelwyn Street in Hilton a short time later.

It is not believed anyone was injured in the crash.

Police apprehended the trio and later charged a 29-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman with stealing and stealing a motor vehicle. They were bailed to appear in court at a later date.
