Carbone relives golden goal

More than 20 years after Perth’s Tony Carbone made football history, the memories are still fresh.

Carbone, now 39, scored world soccer body FIFA’s first golden goal when he found the net for Australia in a World Youth Championship quarter-final match against Uruguay in 1993.

The goal was soon followed by a move to then English top-flight club Nottingham Forest where Carbone rubbed shoulders with some of the game’s top players, including England defender Stuart Pearce.

Carbone, who returned to WA to join Perth Glory in the 1996-97 National Soccer League season, reflects on his golden days in the latest Football 360 online video show.
