A driver has fought off an attempted robbery while stopped at traffic lights in Kardinya this morning.

Yvonne Kelly,33, was in her four-wheel-drive on North Lake Road near the Kardinya Park Shopping Centre at 11.30am when she saw a man crossing the road

Without warning, he ran towards the driver's side of the car and grabbed Mrs Kelly hair as she attempted to put her window up.

The man punched her in the face resulting in bruising and a chipped tooth. Mrs Kelly started driving forward and the man let go and ran away towards the Shell service station.

Mrs Kelly is current receiving treatment at Armadale Hospital.

Her husband Mark said what upset Mrs Kelly the most was that people witnessed the incident but no-one came to help.

The man is described as being in his early 20s, with dark skin, a slim build, black hair and unshaven facial hair.

He was wearing blue jeans, a white t-shrt and a black hooded zip-up jacket. His clothes were noticeably dirty.

Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the attack.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
