Dad, neighbours foil bid to abduct girl

A Warnbro father and his neighbours have foiled an apparent attempt to abduct his daughter from the front yard of his house.

Witnesses said the man was leaving his home on Grand Ocean Boulevard to take his children for a walk and had gone back inside when a woman grabbed his daughter off her bicycle about 10.45am yesterday.

A witness said she tried to run off with the girl down nearby Currie Street, but was chased down by the father and another man, understood to be his nephew.

The woman began arguing with the two men but eventually calmed down, neighbours said.

A Currie Street resident helped the men watch the woman while they waited almost four hours for police to arrive.

He said the father told him he did not know who the woman was, or why she apparently grabbed his daughter.

The woman was eventually treated by paramedics before police took her away.

The girl went home with her father.

Several other neighbours said they were concerned by the long time it took police to respond.
