Teen in court over prisoner death

The teenager accused of killing a fellow prisoner at Wooroloo jail has made a brief appearance in Perth Magistrate's Court.

Robert Thomas Garlett, 19, is accused of unlawful assault causing the death of 35-year-old Troy Allan Roginson.

No details of the alleged assault, which happened at the prison farm on Monday afternoon, were revealed in court.

Police had previously revealed Roginson, who was classified as a minimum-security prisoner, was found unconscious with serious head injuries.

He died the following day.

Garlett was remanded in custody to appear at the Stirling Gardens Magistrate's Court on May 7.
