A motorcyclist who went missing in a reserve near Coolgardie was winched to safety after a search by emergency crews last night.

Police conducted a land search of the Burra Rock area, 55km south of Coolgardie, after the 40-year-old Kalgoorlie man failed to return from a day out riding.

A fixed-wing aircraft reported the first sighting of the man and gave the GPS co-ordinates to crews on board a police helicopter which searched for him into the night.

Crews wearing night vision goggles found the man waving at the helicopter after being drawn to a fire he had lit.

The man was winched to safety after crews were unable to find a suitable place to land the helicopter.

The man was uninjured but dehydrated and taken to Kalgoorlie Airport.
