Police helicopter hit by laser

A 51-year-old Parmelia man has been charged after a police helicopter was struck by a laser.

Police alleged that between 11:20pm and 11:30pm last night a helicopter on patrol was struck numerous times by a green laser light.

The air crew advised ground units and police attended a residence in Bournan Heights, Parmelia.

It is alleged police located two lasers at the residence.

A 51-year-old has been charged with using a portable device to direct a visible laser or other narrow beam of visible light at or near a conveyance.

The man is due to appear in the Rockingham Magistrates Court on May 13.
