Woman's body found after house fire

A body of a woman has been found in the gutted remains of a Geraldton duplex that was destroyed in a mysterious fire yesterday.

The body was found after firefighters put out a blaze that engulfed the Devenish Street residence about 6am.

Police would not say whether the was the occupant of the home.

A woman in an adjoining duplex was treated for smoke inhalation.

Homicide and arson squad detectives and forensic experts from Perth headed to Geraldton yesterday afternoon to investigate.

Firefighters had received a triple zero call just before 6am and it took more than two hours to douse the fire, which gutted one half of the duplex and damaged the other.

The fire caused about $250,000 damage.
