Charges laid over child in stolen car

A man has been charged over a series of offences, including one in which a car was stolen while the owner's child was in the vehicle.

In the first offence, a 25-year-old woman was restrained in her Davies Crescent house in Kardinya on March 13.

The man was allegedly armed with a knife and threatened to kill the woman.

"It is further alleged that the man ransacked the house before stealing laptop computers and a television," police said.

"He allegedly stole the victim's car and left the scene."

The car was found in Rockingham on March 21, but police have called for the public's help to find the computers, which contain images of sentimental value to the owners.

Also on March 21, the man allegedly stole a car parked near a school in Victoria Park while an eight-year-old girl was in the car.

The child's mother was nearby, but did not have an opportunity to stop the theft.

"The girl was told to leave the car at Albany Highway and walked back to her family at the school unharmed within 20 minutes of the car theft," police said.

Murdoch Detectives yesterday charged a 28-year-old man.

The man was arrested on March 23 and charged over an unrelated matter, police said.

"He was further charged over the Victoria Park car theft and charged again today over the Kardinya incident," police said.

Inquiries are continuing and people with information about the offences are urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
