Drugs, weapons charges result from bike crash

Police have charged a 22-year-old man with a string of drugs and weapon offences after he crashed his motorcycle in Ocean Reef.

The man was allegedly riding an unlicensed motorbike along Marmion Avenue without lights on the night of March 6 when he was hit by another vehicle.

Officers attended the scene and allegedly found a taser, handgun and three grams of methamphetamine under the seat of the motorbike.

A further search of the man's Beldon home allegedly uncovered two homemade firearms, ammunition and more drugs.

The man initially escaped charges after he was released from hospital without police knowledge following the accident.

Warwick detectives tracked him down last week.

He has been charged with two counts of manufacturing a firearm, aggravated possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition, possession of a prohibited drug with intent to sell or supply and unlawful possession of a prohibited weapon (taser).

The man was also charged with a number of traffic offences.

He has been released on bail and is due to reappear in court on May 12.
