Charges laid over machete robbery

A man has been charged over a robbery in which a store employee was allegedly threatened with a machete.

It is alleged the man entered the IGA Express store in Willetton at 8.30pm on March 30 when a female staff member was bringing in signs at closing time.

Police say the man grabbed the woman by the arm and forced her inside the store.

"He [allegedly] threatened her with a machete while demanding cash from the till," police said.

"The offender was given an amount of cash before running from the store."

Officers from the Regional Investigation Unit charged the 33-year-old Parkwood man with armed robbery after he was arrested at home yesterday.

He is due to appear in Perth Magistrate's Court today.
