Eagles fly east without skipper

West Coast captain Darren Glass has been ruled out of this weekend’s clash against Geelong with a hip complaint.

The seasoned defender joins a long list of Eagles unavailable for the clash, with Luke Shuey suspended for a week and Mark LeCras (arm), Chris Masten (hamstring), Shannon Hurn (knee) all battling injury.

Eagles coach Adam Simpson said Glass was expected to return to the side next week.

"He's a bit sore. His hip is just a bit tight,” he said.

"It'll be a one-week thing considering his load and how much he's done over pre-season and his experience.

“He's not 100 per cent so he can't play."

The Eagles flew out of Perth today with a squad of 23 players. Defender Elliot Yeo was not on the plane but is expected to join the rest of the squad tomorrow.

Josh Hill, Scott Lycett, Dom Sheed and Sam Butler were named in the side this afternoon, with Sharrod Wellingham also included after being a late withdrawal in last week’s win over St Kilda.

Callum Sinclair, who has played the opening three games, was omitted and did not travel.

Jeremy McGovern and Patrick McGinnity both flew east as emergencies.
