Police and firefighters are at the scene of a road train fire which has been burning for more than seven hours on the Eyre Highway near Eucla.

A double road train containing chemicals caught fire about 11.45pm, 45km west of Eucla.

An ambulance attended but no one was injured.

The truck is still burning in scrub near the highway and road closures may be put in place if smoke carries to the road.

A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said the nearest water supply was an hour from the scene.

"We have crews on attendance but there is not much we can do," he said.

Authorities will monitor the fire until it burns out.
