DJ set to spin in Melbourne

She is now an in-demand DJ around the country but *Swanbourne *-raised music lover *Mikhaila Todd *stumbled upon her career path in the most unlikely way.

Todd, aka *DJ Mishtee *, was sitting in a lecture at university about remix culture when she was given all the justification she needed to give spinning the decks a genuine shot.

"My lecturer talked about DJing being the ultimate postmodern art form because you mix two different songs together and create something completely new," Todd explained.

After finding success at many *Perth * hotspots, the 26-year-old is now packing her bags, saying teary goodbyes to friends and family and moving to Melbourne to take up a residency at luxe venue Baroq House next week.

The news comes just weeks after Todd returned from playing her first international gig in Mauritius for a global energy-drink franchise.

"The energy drink is distributed in 40 countries and the promoters were keen for me to go to other places too," she said.

Citing her ultimate goals as playing at legendary US festival Coachella or providing tunes for a Victoria's Secret runway show, Todd said the male- dominated DJ industry made it easier to stand out as a woman in the field.

But she is prepared for a fight to the top when she heads over to Victoria.

"In Perth there aren't as many female DJs as there are on the east coast, so there will be a lot of competition," the blonde beauty said. "But I have been primed pretty well here and I hope more opportunities do come up in Perth."
