Rinehart firms charged over late reports

The corporate watchdog has charged three of mining billionaire Gina Rinehart's companies with failing to lodge annual reports on time.

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission alleges Hancock Prospecting, Hancock Minerals and Hope Downs Iron Ore committed 13 breaches of the Corporations Act.

The charges cover the years 2008 to 2012.

Annual reports are due to be filed within four months after the end of the financial year.

After a brief hearing yesterday in which no plea was entered, the matter is due before the Perth Magistrates Court again on May 14.
