N *igella Lawson *was left red-faced after she was banned from catching a flight to the US because of her confession in court last year that she took cocaine.

The celebrity cook, right, arrived alone at London's Heathrow airport, where she is said to have checked in and passed security before being banned from boarding the aircraft bound for Los Angeles.

"She didn't seem to say much but she did not look happy," said an onlooker, who witnessed Lawson being turned away from the flight.

The incident is thought to have stemmed from the 54-year-old's confession at a trial last year, where she was forced to admit she had snorted cocaine and smoked cannabis in front of her children.

Though Lawson was not charged, the US can bar foreigners from entering the country even if they have not been formally convicted of drug charges.

As a judge on American talent show The Taste, her career in the US now seems to be under threat unless she can have the ban lifted, which insiders say could take months.
