More than two decades since he first joined mix94.5, veteran radio host Fred Botica has announced he will be leaving the station.

The Perth radio legend has been a fixture on airwaves for 44 years and has featured on seven stations in New Zealand and Australia.

However, in his resignation announcement, Botica notes that none have come close to his 21 years on mix94.5, where he hosted both the Breakfast and Drive shows.

"So many relationships, so many achievements, and so many memories," the presenter said.

"So difficult to make the decision to leave. But I feel it's time to move on. Time for another chapter."

Southern Cross Austero Perth general manager Linda Wayman said they had hoped Botica's move from the Breakfast to the Drive shift would keep him on board for a while longer, but conceded that "all good things must come to an end".

"We accept his decision with the respect that is due to any long-time colleague," Wayman said.

"Fred's professionalism and success have inspired many people in the radio industry over the years - after all, he has been one of Perth's most successful announcers ever."

Botica's last day with mix94.5 will be May 9.
