Man charged over nightclub glassing

A 21-year-old man was allegedly glassed while sticking up for his girlfriend's sister at a Northbridge nightclub earlier this year.

A police spokeswoman said the alleged glassing happened on the upper-level dance floor of the Paramount Nightclub on James Street about 2am on New Years Day.

The 21-year-old was out partying with his girlfriend and her sister when another man approached the sister, allegedly behaving in a way that upset her.

"The victim asked him to stop and the man punched him several times before hitting him in the face with what is believed to be a glass object," the spokeswoman said. "The victim was taken to Royal Perth Hospital and received four stitches to a cut above his eye."

Yesterday, detectives charged a 21-year-old Butler man with unlawful wounding.

He is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court today.
