Taxi driver robbed at knifepoint

A 24-year-old Warnbro man allegedly mugged a taxi driver at knifepoint in Perth's southern suburbs last night.

A police spokesman said the man was picked up from a house in Shoalwater about 11.20pm.

He directed the taxi driver to Dargin Place, Orelia.

"The taxi driver advised the passenger of the amount of the fare and at this point it will be alleged the passenger grabbed the taxi driver by his shirt and produced a knife," the spokesman said.

"He allegedly demanded cash from the taxi driver then fled the scene, running into a nearby park."

Police officers, with the help of the dog squad, allegedly executed a search warrant at a home in Worrell Court in Orelia and arrested the man overnight.

They also seized items relevant to the investigation.

The 24-year-old has been charged with armed robbery and is due to appear in the Rockingham Magistrates Court on Friday.
