Woman charged over retirement home burglary

Police have charged a 39-year-old Karloo woman after she allegedly robbed a 71-year-old at knifepoint in her Morley retirement village on Monday.

It is alleged the victim heard noises in her Redgum Way unit about 2.50am and woke to find the woman brandishing a knife by her bed.

Police say the woman restrained the retiree before rummaging through her home and stealing her car.

The 71-year-old’s Hyundai was later found dumped on vacant land in Madeley.

Officers took the 39-year-old into custody just after 8pm last night.

She has been charged with aggravated burglary, stealing, aggravated armed robbery, deprivation of liberty, burglary, burglary with intent and stealing a motor vehicle.

The woman will appear in Perth Magistrate’s Court today.
