Bid to blow up Halls Head ATM

Police are investigating an attempted automatic teller machine explosion in Halls Head this morning that caused $30,000 damage.

Firefighters were called to a shopping centre on Guava Way about 4am after reports an ATM was on fire.

A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said the crew found a gas cylinder on fire next to the machine.

He said it appeared someone had tried to blow up the machine.

"There was no explosion, just a fire, and police are investigating further," he said.
