Charges laid over Jolimont manhunt

Police have charged four males after a dramatic manhunt in the western Perth suburb of Jolimont yesterday.

Officers and the dog squad found two fugitives in Jolimont yesterday afternoon, during which a police officer was assaulted.

One man was found crouching near a drain in a dried-out lake at Mabel Talbot Park about 4pm.

His accomplice, who was earlier handcuffed and tasered, was discovered 30 minutes later in the rear shed of a vacant Peel Street home.

Up to four men were initially reported acting suspiciously in Jolimont before a police van was rammed by an allegedly stolen car on Cardigan Terrace just before 3pm.

Nearby resident Erica described hearing an "almighty bang" when the vehicles collided and raced outside to see police chasing men down Peel Street.

While they were being apprehended, one of the men allegedly assaulted an officer, who was taken to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital with suspected broken ribs.

Two of the four men escaped, sparking a massive search involving more than 20 officers and 15 patrol cars.

As police flooded nearby streets and the airwing circled overhead _, The Weekend West _was on hand when a police dog found one of the men hiding in a rusted drain pipe in Mabel Talbot Park.

Soon after, residents watched in shock as a wave of officers sprinted up Peel Street after the sighting of the final fugitive.

The man, who had Taser probes still clinging to his black singlet as he was frisked by officers, had been hiding out in a shed in a vacant home.

He was in pain and claimed to have been pepper-sprayed.

Two men and two juveniles were taken into custody over the incident and charges were laid today.

A 29-year-old man, alleged to be the driver of the vehicle, was charged with aggravated burglary, stealing, assaulting a public officer, obstructing police, escaping legal custody, reckless driving and driving an unregistered vehicle.

A 19-year-old man was charged with aggravated burglary and commit, stealing and assaulting a public officer.

Both men were refused bail and are due to appear in Perth Magistrate's Court today.

A 14-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy were both charged with aggravated burglary and commit and are scheduled to appear in Perth Children's Court on April 17.
