UPDATE: Police believe a car stolen in dramatic circumstances in Victoria Park yesterday was involved in an armed robbery soon after.

A mother was left shaken and distraught after a harrowing afternoon where her car was stolen with her daughter still inside.

The car was stolen outside Ursula Frayne Catholic College in Victoria Park shortly before 4pm as the mother was collecting the eight-year-old girl from school.

The child was unharmed when the offenders left her at a nearby shopping centre.

She was found walking back to the school.

The stolen car, a red Toyota Camry with registration 1CSS 621, is believed to have been used in an armed robbery at an Innaloo jewellery store soon after.

About 4.45pm, a man entered a jewellery store on Scarborough Beach Road armed with a hammer.

He smashed display cabinets and stole jewellery.

He left the store in a red Toyota sedan.
