Kalgoorlie family strike Lotto gold

A family has struck Lotto gold in Kalgoorlie, winning $1 million in the mid-week draw.

The family weren't planning to buy a ticket, but an empty box of cereal prompted a quick trip to the shops and a spur-of-the-moment punt at Boulevard Newsagency.

Their ticket was the second Division One winner sold at the Goldfields' store in three months.

The family watched the numbers drop during Wednesday's televised draw.

"The numbers started getting crowded on my ticket while I was circling them and I thought, 'this is looking good'," said one of the winners.

"The win has meant that we now have more choices, we don't have to worry about money and can treat ourselves occasionally."

The lucky Kalgoorlie residents are planning to celebrate for days with lunches, dinners and a few drinks.

On the Lotto bucket list are house renovations, travelling across Australia and spending a bit extra on their upcoming holiday.

The family has had several Division Two wins which they believed were leading to 'the big one'.

"I'm a committed Lotto player and I was determined to win, we are very happy," said the man.

He said the family would keep playing Lotto in search of another big win.
