Sea search after EPIRB signal

Three fishermen who activated a distress beacon off the Leeman coast this morning have been found safe and well.

A sea search was launched for the men after they activated an Emergency Position-Indicating Radio Beacon, commonly known as an EPIRB, at about 7.30am.

Local sea rescue vessels, the RAC helicopter and a search plane went to the last known location of the 16ft fishing boat 130 nautical miles off Leeman where they found the men.

An Australian Maritime Safety Authority spokeswoman said the beacon was activated by inadvertently.
