Man hurt, teen charged after stolen BMW crash

UPDATE 3:25pm A 16-year-old Kalgoorlie boy has been charged over a pursuit and crash in Welshpool last night in which a 51-year-old man was seriously hurt.

The teenager allegedly drove a stolen Mercedes through a red light and crashed into a car in Welshpool last night, leaving a 51-year-old man with serious injuries.

Investigators from Major Crash and Internal Affairs are investigating the crash which happened about 9.35pm at the intersection of McDowell Street and Orrong Road.

A police spokeswoman said police Airwing were pursuing the stolen vehicle after officers tried to intercept it on Albany Highway in East Victoria Park.

The teenager was charged with one count each of Aggravated Dangerous Driving Causing Bodily Harm, No Authority to Drive, Steal Motor Vehicle and Drive Recklessly; and Fail to Stop when Directed by Police.

He was also charged with Driver Fail to Ensure Assistance after Traffic Accident; Driver Fail to Stop after Traffic Incident (Bodily Harm).

He is due to appear in the Perth Childrens Court tomorrow.

The 51-year-old man is in Royal Perth Hospital where he is in a critical but stable condition.
