An 87-year-old man has died after he was hit by a truck in Falcon this morning.

The man was trying to cross Old Coast Road near Baroy Street about 10.45am when he was hit by the northbound truck.

He was administered first aid at the scene before St John Ambulance paramedics transported him to Peel Health Campus.

He died in hospital a short time later.

The 39-year-old male truck driver is assisting police with their inquiries.

Major crash investigators have asked for anyone who has information about the crash to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
