They both grew up in NSW and mixed in the same circles but it wasn't until Angela Tsun and Patrick Dellit moved to Perth that they met and fell in love.

The Seven News Perth weather presenter and Western Force star player randomly bumped into each other at a singles night at The Garden in Leederville on Valentine's Day in 2011.

And after three years together, the pair made it official when Dellit proposed during a picnic lunch at Cottesloe beach last Saturday.

Dellit said he decided to keep Tsun on her toes by doing it the day after Valentine's Day so she wouldn't be expecting anything.

The 27-year-old surprised her by writing "Will you marry me" on a slip of paper and inserting it into a fortune cookie.

Tsun said she already had a mouthful of cookie before she read the proposal, which she immediately accepted.

"It was a beautiful touch to have the fortune cookie because I have Asian heritage and it really surprised me," Tsun told AAA Weekend.

"I honestly thought it was a normal fortune cookie, I had no idea. So when I cracked it open I actually threw half the cookie in my mouth before I read the piece of paper inside, which I kind of regret now because it made it hard to answer."

Rather than proposing with a ring, Dellit had hand-picked a two-carat diamond from Solid Gold Diamonds in Perth's CBD but wanted Tsun to be able to choose the "vintage-style" setting she wanted to wear so he "wouldn't mess it up".

"There were a lot of things that I wasn't sure about. The ring size, shape, and she had definitely dropped some not- so-subtle hints about what she wanted," Dellit laughed.

"It is nice that with the engagement ring, we could come in together and work on it together. It isn't just a gift from me to her but a gift about us."

"I am pleased that he put that thought into it and wanted me to be a part of the process and making sure I was happy with everything," Tsun added. "I didn't have a choice with the diamond but with the shape of the band and how the diamonds are set around the band."

With Tsun eyeing a wedding date of February 15 next year, depending on Dellit's playing schedule, the couple have to choose between having the event in their new home town or heading back to NSW where their families reside.

Tsun said she was particularly excited about dress shopping and was hoping to find the right one from a WA designer.
