Firefighters win battle in Kwinana

The fire started shortly after noon today in bush between Gilmore Road and Meares Road, close to homes in the eastern part of Calista and western part of Parmelia.

Firefighters warned that burning embers were likely to be blown towards homes in Isaacs Way and Rhodes Crescent in Calista, before the blaze was brought under control at about 2.30pm.

Several roads remain closed, including Gilmore Avenue between Challenger Avenue and Wellard Road.

Forty firefighters battled the blaze and crews are currently strengthening containment lines and mopping up.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
