A pilot escaped unharmed after he was forced to make an emergency landing near Newman Airport this morning.

The man landed the light aircraft about 2km north-east of the airport at 5.50am after noticing a mechanical fault.

He was not injured but has been taken to Newman Hospital for a check-up.

The pilot was the only person onboard the aircraft.

A police spokeswoman said the incident would be investigated.
