Fremantle Port looks more impressive than usual after the Queen Mary 2 docked this morning.

The floating luxury resort cruised into Fremantle at about 8am as part of a global voyage, carrying about 2600 passengers.

The world-famous ocean liner is part of the Cunard fleet, which includes the Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth.

Cunard Line spokesman David Jones said the cruise ship would stop in Fremantle twice as part of its circumnavigation of Australia.

"She is going around Australia once but will stop in Fremantle and Sydney twice," he said.

Fremantle has become familiar with the gigantic vessel over the years, with the port town a regular stopping point since 2010.

"Fremantle is one of the places that has really benefited from the cruise industry, because people on board are really keen to go shopping and do short tours," he said.

Mr Jones said recent figures indicated the cruise ship industry contributed close to $3 billion annually to Australia's economy.

The Queen Mary 2 is expected to depart Fremantle at 5pm tomorrow.
