Kerr fame not all in the family
Miranda Kerr's family have opened up about the tyranny of fame, revealing they have not seen the Aussie supermodel or her three-year-old son in more than a year.
The 30-year-old grew up in the NSW town of Gunnedah before making headlines in 1997 aged 13 after winning the Dolly magazine model competition. Kerr moved to New York five years ago.
Her parents, brother and grandparents have filmed an emotional episode of ABC1's Family Confidential, which screens tonight at 8pm, talking about the effect Kerr's fame has had on the family.
"It has been a year nearly since we all sat down and had a meal together with Miranda and Flynn," Kerr's mother Therese said.
"Knowing what I know now, I wish she had really married a nobody because you really can't get that family time by yourselves."
Kerr's father John added: "I just hope that Flynn grows up and wants to be with his nan and pop.
"I would like to teach Flynn how to milk a cow, how to ride a horse and teach him all those country things."
Mr Kerr revealed that he found out about his daughter's split from Orlando Bloom in October when the British actor phoned him.
"I remember him saying, 'We're always going to be family', and that's how we'll treat Orlando, Miranda and Flynn - we're all family," he said.
Kerr's grandmother Ann said: "I miss the baby and I think he's missing out on family, that closeness that we have always had."
Kerr's brother Matthew added: "I'd like to spend more one-on-one time instead of with an entourage of people we don't know."
In response to the Family Confidential episode, a spokeswoman for Kerr said that she was not able to take part in filming in Australia because of her busy work schedule but was "grateful to her parents, brother and extended family for their ongoing support and love".
