Gallas gets go in Glory group

Marquee defender William Gallas has been named in the Perth Glory squad to take on Melbourne Heart in Albury on Sunday despite lingering doubts over the veteran’s fitness.

Gallas, 36, was sent for scans on Monday after limping from the field with a left calf muscle injury late in last week’s draw with Melbourne Victory.

The scans revealed no major damage, but the former English Premier League star has been on light duties at training this week.

Gallas was named in a 16-man squad for the Heart game today and is expected to travel to Melbourne tomorrow.

Interim coach Kenny Lowe included Young Socceroos striker Jamie Maclaren and Brazilian winger Sidnei Sciola in the squad, while former Central Coast midfield ace Rostyn Griffiths is in line for his Glory debut.

Adrian Zahra, Ryan Edwards and Danny De Silva were left out of the squad altogether.

Heart will be without suspended marquee man Orlando Engelaar, while Stefan Mauk and Maltese international Michael Mifsud have been promoted.
