Tomahawk bandit had unfinished tattoo

Detectives are looking for a man who threatened a couple with a tomahawk in East Victoria Park.

According to police, a male and female, both aged 27, were walking on Somerset Street near Aqualife between 5.30pm and 6pm on Friday, January 24.

A man riding a mountain bike approached the couple, got off his bike and armed with a tomahawk demanded the woman's handbag.

The woman refused to hand over her bag and the couple fled towards Shepparton Road.

A nearby witness chased the offender along Gerard Street and into Swansea Street, but the man jumped a fence.

During the chase the man dropped a backpack which contained a tomahawk, beige Fedora hat and a NYPD cap.

Police described the alleged offender as olive-skinned, about 180cm tall, of slim build and with short curly hair.

He had an unfinished tattoo on the lower left side of his back and was wearing dark shorts.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call Crime Stoppers.
