Firefighters tackle flames in Kingsley

UPDATE: Firefighters have contained a blaze that threatened to approach homes in Kingsley this afternoon.

Emergency authorities were called to a car fire on the Mitchell Freeway southbound about 2pm.

Four crews rushed to the scene and arrived to find the flames had spread from the car to scrub beside the freeway.

The blaze was contained by 2.40pm, but not before it had burnt through nearly half a hectare of bush.

The cause of the car fire is yet to be determined.
