Taxi driver attacked

A knife-wielding man tried to rob a taxi driver in Waikiki last night.

The offender flagged down the taxi outside Murphy's Irish Pub in Mandurah about 10.30pm.

He asked to be taken to Warnbro train station then on to an address in Waikiki.

Once at the Waikiki property, the passenger pulled out a small knife and threatened the driver, demanding cash or valuables.

However the driver refused his demands, which prompted the passenger to get out of the car.

The driver also got out of the car but was then pushed in the back, causing him to fall to the ground and graze his hands and forearm.

His attacker was last seen running away through a nearby park.

Police described the attempted armed robber as in his mid-twenties and 182cm tall with dark skin, a solid build and a small build.

He was wearing a black singlet and dark shorts.
