Rescue chopper in ship emergency

The RAC rescue helicopter has winched a man from a livestock ship off the Geraldton coast this morning.

The man had to be rescued after suffering a medical emergency on the vessel about 5am.

An Australian Maritime Safety Authority spokeswoman said the livestock carrier was about 45 nautical miles off Dongara.

“The rescue coordination centre here at AMSA is coordinating the medical evacuation of a seafarer from a livestock carrier,” she said.

“The rescue chopper has winched the seafarer off the vessel and they’re going to return to Perth with the patient.

“It was a medical emergency not an injury.”
