Bomb squad deal with home-made rocket

A Spearwood shopping centre was locked down this morning as bomb squad officers investigated what appeared to be a home-made rocket.

Police cordoned off the area around Phoenix Shopping Centre, a major shopping centre on Rockingham Road.

The package was reported just before 6am.

The shopping centre is open but police are still at the scene.

Channel 7 reporter Grant Taylor told 6PR a can of fuel was also found near the 'rocket'.

He said police expect to release security vision later in the day in an attempt to find the person involved.
