Police say they found a 29-year-old man hiding under water in an inflatable pool after he allegedly fled from officers in Belmont last night.

It will be alleged police tried to stop the man on Keymer Street about 10.40pm when he was riding a scooter stolen from Maylands.

A police spokesman said he turned onto Great Eastern Highway then completed a u-turn over the median strip back onto Keymer Street.

He allegedly dumped the scooter on a driveway then ran from the scene.

Police dog Storm tracked a scent into a fenced-off area of the backyard.

Officers allegedly found the man hiding in the inflatable swimming pool.

The 29-year-old from Forrestfield has been charged with stealing a motor vehicle, failing to stop and no authority to drive.

He is due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on Wednesday, February 26.
