Police, dog squad chase scooter rider

A man on a scooter led police officers on a chase through Forrestdale this morning.

The pursuit only ended when police dog Slam tracked the 27-year-old down in dense bush.

A spokesman said about 1.30am officers from the South East Metropolitan Response Team were on patrol when they noticed a scooter without headlights being driven on Ranford Road.

Sirens failed to stop the scooter rider and a pursuit followed.

Police allege the scooter was ridden in a reckless manner before being abandoned in bush.

The Dog Squad was called and Slam picked up the man's scent.

"A challenge was issued to the man, who surrendered to the dog handler," a police spokesman said.

The Carlisle man has been charged with failing to stop, reckless driving, no authority to drive, unlicensed vehicle, driving a vehicle without headlights illuminated and driving a motor vehicle without wearing a protective helmet.

He is due to appear in the Armadale Magistrates Court on February 6.
