Crash fear for pregnant Gale

Megan Gale has broken her silence on her horrifying experience of having a car accident while five months pregnant with her first child.

Earlier this month in Melbourne, the former Perth supermodel was rear-ended and rammed into the car in front.

The car wasn't fit to be driven, so she caught a taxi straight to her obstetrician for an emergency scan.

"It was a horrible experience and the first time I felt really scared and protective of the baby. I was a mess. Everything ended up being fine but it was the first time those fierce maternal instincts just kicked in," Gale told Who Magazine, on sale today.

The glowing David Jones ambassador, who is expecting her first child with boyfriend of three years, AFL footballer Shaun Hampson, 25, opened up about her pregnancy for the first time to the magazine, where she proudly shows off her burgeoning bump.

"I just knew that becoming a mum was part of my future, so holding on to that helped keep me positive," she told Who.

"We tried not to get disenchanted by the fact that it didn't happen immediately. Everyone says stress hinders the process, so while I was very mindful of my age, I tried to be optimistic."

At 38, Gale said she had constantly been asked about whether she was going to have a baby for the past decade, a pressure she said she had found difficult.

"That's something I've always been disappointed in, and I think a lot of women feel it. I would never ask a woman why she hasn't had kids yet," she revealed to the magazine.

"How do I know she hasn't just had a miscarriage or is going through IVF? It's just so sensitive.

"If there's any message I want to send it's for people to please stop prodding women about when they're going to fall pregnant."

Despite these misgivings, Gale said she has never been happier.

"I'm over the Moon. I'm so excited to meet this baby and see how it changes me, and Shaun and I as a couple," she said.
