Wellingham no-show at Eagles training

Midfielder Sharrod Wellingham was a notable absentee at West Coast training this morning.

The 25-year-old has been on lighter duties after experiencing leg soreness soon before Christmas.

He was not sighted during a 90-minute training session at Patersons Stadium in which the Eagles concentrated on skills work in hot conditions.

Wellingham managed just 10 matches last season in a disappointing return after the hype surrounding his recruitment.

He missed the start of the 2013 season after badly injuring his ankle jumping off a trampoline.

The former Collingwood premiership player then broke down with a separate ankle problem just three weeks after making his debut for West Coast in round six.

Defender Jacob Brennan trained lightly yesterday as he recovers from a similar leg injury to Wellingham.

The 23-year-old ran laps alongside Beau Waters and draftee Tom Barrass, who are also being managed as part of the rehabilitation group.

Key backman Will Schofield was the only other player from West Coast’s first choice team missing at training.
