UPDATE: Former Argentina World Cup-winning midfielder Osvaldo Ardiles has reportedly been involved in a serious car crash on the Falkland Islands.

Ardiles, who helped his country win the 1978 World Cup held at home, was said to be making a documentary for ESPN with former Argentina and Tottenham teammate Ricky Villa, who was also in the car.

The Mail online reported that Ardiles had 21 stitches but his injuries were not life-threatening.

The South Atlantic News Agency said the 61-year-old, who also played for Huracan, Paris St-Germain and Blackburn among other clubs, was flown by helicopter to King Edward Memorial Hospital in Stanley, the capital of the islands.
