Road train smash closes highway

A 21-year-old man who was due to appear in a Perth court today will be charged with dangerous driving and breach of bail conditions after a serious crash near Geraldton early this morning.

Police were called to the crash on Brand Highway, near Rudds Gully Road about 10km south of Geraldton, at 3.35am after reports a road train had collided with two cars.

After further enquiries traffic officers discovered one of the cars involved had been reported to police in the hours earlier because it had been seen driving erratically.

The 21-year-old driver of that vehicle sustained minor injuries and is currently under police guard at a Geraldton hospital.

All other drivers escaped serious injury.

It will be alleged the man was driving despite having his licence under court suspension.

He will be charged with breach of bail conditions and dangerous driving.

Inquiries are still continuing into the nature of the crash and the vehicles involved.

Drivers should expect delays as police continue to investigate the crash.
