Perth detectives have charged a man over an assault at a CBD bar that left a 26-year-old man with serious injuries.

A 21-year-old Thornlie man has been charged with one count of grievous bodily harm.

The incident, which happened at Murray Street bar Carnegie's on December 20, left an Osborne Park man without sight in one eye.

Gareth, who did not want his surname used, said he was attacked without warning as he went to help workmates in a minor scuffle in Carnegie's.

Perth City Detectives charged the Thornlie man today and he is expected to appear in Perth Magistrate's Court on January 23.

"The victim was conveyed to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, where he underwent surgery," police said of the assault.

"He suffered irreparable damage to his left eye as a result of his injuries."
